Kings Landing Cemetery
Also known as Hanfords Landing Cemetery
Rochester, Monroe County, New York, USA
Founded in 1798 at the site of the first European settlement in the Rochester area, it is the first cemetery established in the city.
Located on the northeast corner of Lake Avenue and Maplewood Drive just south of where Gideon King built a house during 1797 in a sparely settled wilderness area that was later resettled by the Hanford family beginning about 1809. In this burial ground are graves of Revolutionary soldiers and some of the earliest pioneers of the area. Some graves are without headstones, some gravestones are scattered and those still standing are mostly made of river stones. Many of the headstones are now broken and only a few are still legible. A large monument at the front of the cemetery lists known graves by name and date of death. It was created in 2001 as part of a public-service project by Boy Scout Troop 68. The cemetery is maintained by Eastman Kodak.
