In 1895, a Roman Catholic Church and cemetery named Our Lady of Prompt Succor was established on lands located near Bancker, a community at the center of four plantations on the Vermilion River. The earliest burials in the cemetery date to 1897, the same year the church was consecrated.

In 1939, the church building was relocated to the town of Henry and renamed St. John the Evangelist. Afterwards, Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church Cemetery became known simply as Bancker Cemetery.

The site today is a memorial park featuring a grotto, picnic area, and an elevated boardwalk leading to Bancker Cemetery.
