This cemetery was established for the "Gnegy Church" (originally the Gnegy-Slaubaugh Church) which was founded by the early members of those families in 1856. They were followers of John Holdeman who had recently broken away from the "Old Order Amish" and established the "Church of God in Christ," commonly known as "Holdeman Mennonites." The church was still in active use up until its closer in 1950, when most of the remaining members transferred to the nearby "Saint John's Lutheran Church" in Redhouse, Garrett County, MD. - Information from recorded Garrett County History.
