The present brick church was completed in 1846. The bricks came from oxen driven wagons from Alexandria, Virginia. The oldest gravestone in the churchyard dates to 1786. In 1885, the cemetery was established on a little over 2 acres several blocks from the cemetery with an additional 1.5 acres given as a gift to prevent housing development.
