In 1862 Preacher John L. Miller from Holmes County, Oh, moved to the farm on which the Nisley Cemetery is located on a knoll in the middle of a pasture beside County Road 35 just north of County Road 34 about 5 miles east of Goshen. The farm and the care of the cemetery (which continues to be used by the Amish community free of charge) have passed through 5 generations: John L. Miller, Joni J. Miller, Anna Nisley, Perry Nisley and now Glen Nisley. There are no records to indicated when the cemetery was begun.

The oldest legible date in the cemetery is Aug. 13, 1862.
