Lewis Davis and his wife, Mary A. Craft Davis had a farm near Billingsville, Indiana, up to 1872 when they moved to Liberty, Indiana. Lewis purchased a 10-acre tract and laid out the ground as a cemetery, which became West Pont Cemetery. He added plants and trees, winding drives and walks and expended over $10,000 to carry out his plans. For years he acted as his own superintendent, attending to everything on the grounds. It passed to his son Albert after he died.
