Eudora City Cemetery
Eudora, Douglas County, Kansas, USA
Owned and operated by the city of Eudora, the Eudora City Cemetery has served as the community's primary burial ground since the 1860s. Its establishment marked a transition for the town, as many of Eudora's early residents were originally laid to rest on family farms or at the old Southwest Cemetery. When the community moved away from using the Southwest site, many individuals were moved from those smaller plots to this central location. The city officially purchased the original four and one-half acres from William Partridge on April 25, 1867 for $120. The first burial at the new site was eight-year-old Charles Robinson, who passed away on May 19, 1867.
In 1907, the cemetery committee ordered for the removal of all oak trees from plots, changing the landscape of what was once a heavily wooded site to help maintain the cemetery.
To accommodate the growing community, the city purchased an additional three acres in May 1956.
A directory was dedicated by the Lions Club in May 2005 is located at the northeast corner of the cemetery and includes a map of the grounds.
