There is a marker near the first stones of this cemetery that reads: Pleasant Ridge Cemetery

1871 Baptist 1834

In memory of'

The Pioneers who had the

Courage and the Faith

to build new

homes on the unbroken

prairie

The history of the cemetery, as given to me by the present caretaker. Originally this cemetery was on the grounds of a Baptist church. Prior to 1940, the church was moved across the road to a separate area. The caretaker was unsure of the exact dates, but the church then closed in the 1970's. This area was settled primarily by the Welsh from Ohio, followed by immigrants from Germany, many of whom created the Amana Colonies and the Amana Society nearby. Following the closing of the church, a farmer attempted to use the land to grow crops, and was stopped, but it is unknown if he succeeded in destroying any stones or grave sites, so there may be unmarked graves. The last burial was an infant in 2006. She was buried here to be close to her great grandparents and relatives.
