The Riverside Cemetery is located in Section 29 of Portland Township, Plymouth County, Iowa. Going north out of Akron on Highway 12, you will find the cemetery on both sides of the highway. The Riverside Cemetery was established in 1880 after the York Street Cemetery reached its capacity. The first burials took place that same year. As the need for burial space grew, the city acquired additional land to expand the cemetery during the early 1920's.
