Red Rock Cemetery
Red Rock, Noble County, Oklahoma, USA
A committee of citizens of Red Rock, Saturday received notice from the department of the interior through Ralph P. Stanton, Supt. of the Otoe Agency, that application for removal of restrictions and approval of sale of ten acres of Indian land adjoining the town to be used for cemetery purposes had been granted.
The land in question is a spot of beautiful upland prairie situated one half mile southeast of the town site and is a portion of an Indian allotment heretofore withheld from sale.
The people of Red Rock have long been trying to acquire title through the Indian department, to a tract of land for burial ground, but up to this date have had to bury their dead at Ceres or at other cemeteries in the county. The land surrounding the town is all owned by Indians and not subject to sale, but through the earnest efforts of a few leading citizens and the kindly assistance of Supt. Stanion, who not only presented the application to his superiors in the department, but took the subject up with congressman McGuire, recently in Washington and had the matter satisfactorily consumated.
The citizens will have the cemetery site surveyed and plotted at once.
