This cemetery was originally the burial ground of the Christian Van Doren family and possibly some of their neighbors. It remained a private burial ground for various families in the area until 1847, when it was deeded to the congregation of the Middlebush Reformed Dutch Church. The cemetery remained in possession of the church until 1883 when the cemetery association was incorporated.
