David Robert Kelly, 56, died Nov. 24, 2010, at his home in Anchorage.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. today at the Cremation Society of Alaska, 7216 Lake Otis Parkway.
David was born Nov. 30, 1953, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He emigrated with his family from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to Alaska in 1964.
He graduated from East Anchorage High School in 1972 and started working for the same firm his father worked for, Glass Sash and Door Inc. in Anchorage. Prior to his high school graduation, he had worked there part-time since 1969 and, other than a brief hiatus in the late 1980s, he was a valued employee there until his death.
Following in his father's footsteps, David received his diploma as an architectural hardware consultant in 1978. He was very proud of this achievement and became known and respected for his professionalism and as the man to go to in Alaska for any questions about hardware.
David was an avid, skilled fisherman. He didn't have many tales about the one that got away. He loved to cook and share with his friends and family the smoked and baked fish that he caught. Friends and colleagues all acknowledge that David was a caring, generous and kind person. He had great love for his parents and brothers.
Survivors are his brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Janice of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Myles and Maris of Eagle River, Tim and Vicky of Evans, Colo., Michael and Teri of Ben Lomond, Calif., and Barry of Anchorage; and nieces and nephews, Erin and Andrea of Vancouver, Andy of Evans, Faye, Sean and Catherine, all of Anchorage, and Susanna of Eagle River.
David struggled with alcoholism all his adult life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Drydock Inc., 8141 Briarwood St., Anchorage 99518. Or call 348-8819 and ask for Bill H.
