Lonah Glenn Thayer was the son of Tileston Otis Thayer (1861-1944) and Alice "Allie" James (1867-1939). He came from a long line of blacksmiths and was working as a Merchant Marine in his final days.

Lonah first married Loretta Reiner on 12 April 1911 in Oregon. They had two boys, Glenn Albert Thayer & Lonah Eldon Thayer.

Lonah married Minnie May Griffin (1892-1973) in San Francisco, Ca. about 1930. Together they had one child, Rose Vaurine Thayer (1932-1988).

According to his death certificate, Lonah died from complications with pneumonia and meningitis after spending two days in the Los Angeles General Hospital. His wife was unavailable at his time of death due to being quarantined for TB in San Francisco.
