Born in Penton, son of the late Thomas and Phoebe Simpkins Butler, he had been a lifelong resident of Penton in Alloway Twp.
A Woodstown High School graduate, Mr. Butler served in the US Army during WWII.
After his war service, he worked at Mannington Mills as a shipping foreman until his retirement in 1986.
He was a member of and very active with the Alloway Baptist Church, was a member of the Old Boys Club, and enjoyed gardening, fishing, and raising steers.
Mr. Butler is survived by his wife, Pearl (nee Lamont), four children, Lonetta Bennett of Pennsville, Dale Butler of Woodstown, Dennis R. Butler of Penton, and Nancy Widger of Harmersville; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters & two brothers, Anna Perkins, Earl Butler, Herbert Butler, & Esther Harwood.
Services will be held 11 AM Thursday, March 3rd in the H.T. LAYTON & SON HOME FOR FUNERALS, 102 S. Main St., Woodstown, where friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 AM. Interment will be in Alloway Baptist Cemetery.
