John was the son of James W. Castor and Belle Ilexzene (Casey) Castor Clark Haltom. John married Vie A. (Barnes) Castor Martin (1876-1927) on November 14, 1901 in Savannah, Andrew County, Missouri. He was married previously to Libbie (Clark) Castor on April 12, 1893 in Decatur County, Iowa.

John W. Castor, age 41, died of scarlet fever at the city quarantine hospital shortly before noon yesterday. He was a very sick man when taken to the hospital about four days ago. He was a stoker by trade, living at 1703 South 44th street, where he leaves a widow and two sons, 7 and 2 years, and his mother. The funeral was held privately yesterday afternoon, Rev. W. B. Marsh of St. Paul's M.E. church officiating. Interment wan(sic) in Tacoma cemetery.
