Vennie Sackman Yoakum

    Vennie Sackman, daughter of Mrms. Charles and Tavia (Butts) Sackman, was born Nov. 14, 1889. She became a member of the First Baptist church in Cowgill at an early age.

     She was united in marriage to Fred Yoakum January 9, 1907. To this union three children were born, Mrs. Irene Kelley of Cowgill, Charles Yoakum of Kansas City, Kans., and a second daughter who died in infancy.

    She died July 25, 1951, at the age of 61 years, 8 months and 11 days.

    She is survived by her husband, daughter and a son; her father Charles Sackman; a sister, Mrs. Fannie Wonsetler; a granddaughter, Joyce Ann Yoakum; an aunt, Mrs. Byrd Burdick of Kansas City, and a host of relatives.

    She was preceded in death by her mother and two sisters, Mrs. Lova Poor and Miss Ione Sackman.

    Mrs. Fred (Vennie) Yoakum, who has been seriously ill for months, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Grafton Kelley, Wednesday, July 25, at the age of 61 years 8 months and a few days. She had been in poor health for years with a complication of afflictions.

    She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Ione Kelley of Cowgill; a son, Charles F. Yoakum of Kansas City; her father, Charles Sackman; a sister, Mrs. Fannie Wonsetler; a granddaughter, Joyce Yoakum, and a host of other relatives.

    Her funeral was held at the Baptist church Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock conducted by her pastor, Rev. Joe Porter. A quartet composed of W.A. Sprouse, Rev. Joe Porter, Harold Stephens and J.D. Stephens sang three numbers.

    She was laid to rest in the Cowgill cemetery.

    Among those from out of town who were here for the funeral were Mrms. Henry Hoakum, Mrms. William Yoakum of Hamilton, Mrms. Glen Setzer of St. Joseph, Mrms. William Wonsetler, Mrms. Charles Yoakum, Mrms. Jack Yoakum of Kansas City, Mrs. Edith Humphrey of Taylorville, Ill., Mrms. Arthur Moore and daughter Peggy of Chillicothe, Mrms. Raymond Cox of Kingston and Mrms. Jim Jackson and son of Breckenridge.
