Our people were surprised and shocked Friday morning when the message came from Dublin saying that J. H. Donaldson had passed away.
Just a few weeks ago he left Honey Grove for Dublin to visit his daughter, Mrs. O. O. Gain, and family. He had not been sick before his departure. He suffered a stroke of paralysis from which he never rallied.
J. H. Donaldson was a native of Fannin county; was born near Windom August 14, 1852, and was past 86 years of age.
He had been very active during his lifetime, and in 1878 he moved to Honey Grove and for many years was engaged in the grocery business.
Since the death of his wife in 1926 he had lived alone at his home in the north part of the city. He was quiet and unassuming in his manner and was never known to harm or speak harshly of his fellowman. For many years he was a member of the Baptist church.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the cemetery chapel, conducted by Rev. C. P. Sanson of Bonham and Rev. T. J. Watts, local pastor, with burial in Oakwood cemetery.
Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. O. O. Gain of Dublin; a son, Dr. Macon Donaldson of Bonham; two brothers, Herbert Donaldson of Mineral Wells and Walter Donaldson of Shady Grove, N. M.; and one sister, Miss Mollie Donaldson of Windom.
