PAYNE, Charles Franklin Jr. "Charlie," age 86, of Moseley, Va., passed away Friday, June 7, 2013. He has returned to his Savior, Jesus Christ, after decades of serving his church and others. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Kathryne Russell Payne.

An only child, he is survived by two sons, Dr. Stephen Keith Payne of Midlothian, Va., and Charles Franklin Payne III "Trip" of Williamsburg, Va. He was loved by daughters-in-law, nephews and nieces, grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Charlie grew up off the Boulevard in Richmond as an only child. He was a WWII veteran, a graduate of Virginia Tech and member of their practice football team and served in management for the DuPont Company for over three decades until his retirement in 1992.

The family will receive friends and loved ones on Sunday, June 9, in the main sanctuary of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in the afternoon from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. in the historic chapel in Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, directly across the street from the main sanctuary, with interment immediately following at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, in memory of Charles. The church is located at 18100 Genito Rd., in Moseley, Va.
