Holyoke Enterprise, Holyoke, Colorado, January 17, 2008
Julian "Jay" Hans Rasmussen died January 11, 2008 at the age of 95. Jay was born December 15, 1912 in Stratton.
On September 3, 1938 he married Lily Mae Jones in Burlington. They made their home in Stratton and welcomed three children. The family later moved and settled in Holyoke where Jay was employed by Reimer-Smith Elevator.
He retired to a small farm in Julesburg, which he filled with cows, horses and donkeys. Jay loved being outdoors and soon filled his farm yard with a variety of shade trees and fruit trees. He is survived by wife Lily; two brothers, Milford and Ralph; son Larry Rasmussen and wife Dollie of San Diego, California; daughters Kay Blochowitz and husband Lyle of Julesburg and Dona Steffens and husband Clyde of Montrose; grandchildren Bob and Connie Brown of Boise, Kyle and Jennifer Blochowitz of Chappel, Nebraska, Kody and Heidi Blochowitz of Ovid, Alicia Steffens of Montrose, Tiffany Steffens of Los Angeles, California and Megan Steffens of Montrose; and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral service was held January 15 at Harvest Baptist Church in Ovid, with Pastor Mark Baker officiating. Private family interment followed at Hillside Cemetery in Julesburg.
