Rudy Haydel was born August 3, 1928. He spent his early years in Moreauville and at the age of 12, moved to Marksville and became a lifetime resident. He died at his home on Rudy's Pocket on Monday, Sept. 2, 2013. Rudy lived a long and full life. He owned Mardel Products and was a well- respected wood craftsman. He designed and built the Mark Elish broken wagon wheel featured on the north and south ends of Hwy. 1 in Marksville. He studied photography in California and used this talent throughout his life, including having served in the US Army as a photographer. His hobbies included avaition, astronomy, water skiing and African big-game hunting. He designed and built his own airplane and had telescopes throughout his house to study the stars.
He is preceeded in death by his parents, Aimee Bordelon Haydel and Hunter Henry Haydel, two sisters, Hilda Scott and Gertrude Roy, and three brothers, Garner Haydel, Richard Haydel and Hubert Haydel. He is survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
