He was born Friday, Feb. 21, 1901, in Spring Grove, Ill., the son of Edwin G. and Anne (Rehorst) Haldeman. He attended eight years of school and later married Margaret Kraemer Sept. 17, 1930, in Chicago.
He was employed in the maintenance department at Dean's Foods, Chemung, Ill., for 27 years and retired in 1966. He also did carpentry work. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Harvard, Ill., where he also served as an elder and a deacon in the church. He was also a former Boy Scout leader and a member of the Chemung School Board.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret, Walworth; four children, Edwin Jr. (Mary Jane), Harvard, Ill., Jerry (Jean) Haldeman, Harvard, Ill., JoAnn (Dale) Marrs, Richardson, Texas, and Jess (Virginia) Haldeman, Big Sandy, Texas; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth (Frank) Tolbert, Chicago.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Cecil, Paul, and Lyman; three sisters, Edith Hanlan, Louella Wilkinson and Viola Wilkinson.
A private funeral was held Feb. 23, 1998, at the Saunders and McFarlin Funeral Home, Harvard, Ill. The Rev. Jeff Borgerson officiated.
