Elsie A. Diehl
Former area special education teacher
Elsie A. Diehl, a resident of the Centre Crest Nursing Home in Bellefonte, died at 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday, May 12, 1993, after a lengthy illness.
Born March 17, 1907, in Julian, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Turner) Andrews. She was united in marriage to John M. Diehl in 1935. Mr. Diehl preceded her in death in 1959.
She is survived by three sons; Charles Diehl of Binghamton, N.Y., Ted Diehl of Rochester, N. Y., and Ned Diehl of Harrisburg; and seven grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters; Thresa Tice of Centre Hall and Alma Johnson of Oaklyn, N.J.
Mrs. Diehl was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Bellefonte. She was also a member of the Bellefonte Chapter 350, Order of the Eastern Star; the Amaranth, Nittney Valley Court 99; the Cyrene 46, White Shrine of Jerusalem, State College; the Bellefonte Women's Club, and the Retired Teachers' Association.
She was a special education teacher in the Huntingdon, Saxton, Broad Top and Bellefonte areas. Mrs. Diehl retired in 1970.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 17, at 10:30 a.m. in the Wetzler Funeral Home, 206 North Spring St., Bellefonte, with the Rev. Dr. Lynn D. Trutt officiating. Interment will be made in the Philipsburg Cemetery, Rust Township.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A special Amaranth Memorial Service will be held at 8:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
