Harrison was born in Jefferson County, New York in 1841, possibly in the village of Orleans.
His parents had a desire to create a home for themselves in the wilderness so using a covered wagon they packed up their family and slowly moved from Jefferson County, New York to Michigan, probably via Canada where his youngest sibling was born in 1846. They arrived first in Saginaw in 1847 and shortly thereafter removed to the village of Portsmouth, Michigan (now Bay City). At the time, Portsmouth consisted of ten dwellings near the water's edge which is now at the foot of Fifth Street on the Saginaw River in Bay City. One log structure, originally designed to be a bank, became home for the family for several years. When they first arrived in Portsmouth there were several Indians in the area. As the population grew they became fewer and fewer. The community grew fast so the family removed to nearby Hampton Township to farm.
Harrison married Alice Adelaide Woods on July 4, 1868 in Saginaw, In 1873 at the age of 32 years he died in Hampton Township, Bay County, Michigan as a result of a boiler explosion.
