Born in Blount County, Alabama on August 19, 1923 to Father - Amos Shipp (deceased 1995) and Mother - Eula Wilson Shipp (deceased 1925) and Step-Mother - Allieen Thomas Shipp (deceased 2002). Raised and lived in Alabama until 1964 when she moved with her husband and children to California.
Oldest of 9 siblings - Earl Shipp (Doris), Lee Reid (Alvin), Oleta McMurray-deceased (Curtis-deceased), Enola Chappell (Fred), Lou Bell-deceased (John), Mary Ann Nethery (Sidney-deceased), Deloris Donegan (Butch-deceased), Tommie Sue Chumley-deceased (Joe).
Married February 9, 1952 to Houston O. Bender - deceased October 30, 1995.
Survived by 2 children, daughter - Danette Zora Bender and companion James Hannon, and son - John Houston Bender and companion Teresa Castillo. Grandchildren, Tiffany Amber Bender and Justin Henry Bender. Great-Grandchildren, Madelyn Alicia Torres and Katelyn Alana Torres. Extended family Granddaughter, Candace Castillo.
She was pleased to have the company of her husbands family when she moved to California and her friends gave her fulfillment with the missing of her brother and sisters back home in Alabama.
Raised Southern Baptist and participated in church as a child and with her children, she worked with Rainbows and Boy Scouts, babysat her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She worked in the family business J. H. Bender Equipment Company with her husband from 1952 until it was merged with her son's business, Diamond Liners Inc. She worked until December 17, 2012 when she broke her hip. She was a true workaholic.
She will be missed and loved by family and friends. God speed you travel, we will see you again at the side of God.
