March 17--- Mrs. Maxine Hutcheson Pitts Compton, age 90, of Vidalia, died Sunday, March 16, 2014 in the Bethany Nursing Center in Vidalia after an extended illness.
She was a native of Emanuel County, also lived Johnson County, and in Vidalia most of her life.
She was a 1941 graduate of Adrian High School and was also Valedictorian. She was a 1943 graduate of Young Harris College and a 1945 graduate of Mercer University where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in English.
She taught school in Cochran, Vidalia, and Toombs County and retired after twenty-five years.
She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Vidalia.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Oliver Jackson Pitts, Sr. and Walter Compton; parents, Linton and Arlie Flanders Hutcheson; sister, Doris Hutcheson Curry Walker; and brother, Clark Hutcheson.
The graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 19th at 1:00 p.m. in the Corinth Memorial Cemetery in the Meeks Community in Johnson County with Reverend Jack Key officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Educational Fund, P.O. Box 150, Vidalia GA 30475, or the Corinth Memorial Cemetery, Meeks Road, Kite GA 31049.
