Walter and Laverne owned and operated Gersch Automotive in Giddings for 19 years. She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin where she was a member of the LWML and held officer positions locally and within the Post Oak Zone. She was a founding and lifetime member of the Texas Wendish Heritage Society where she also had held various offices and volunteered numerous hours in the Wendish Heritage Museum and with the annual Wendish Fest. Laverne also served on the Appraisal Review Board with the Lee Central Appraisal District and was the election chairman of the Lee County Republican Party. She had great organizational skills and enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening and taking care of her flowers, cats and squirrels. Laverne passed away the morning of Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at St. Mark's Medical Center in La Grange.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Alan Dean Gersch; her sister, Annie Zoch; her brother, Charles Zoch and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Delbert & Olga Mae Gersch.
Laverne is survived by her husband of nearly 58 years, Walter Gersch of Northrup; her two sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan & Kathy Gersch and David & Joan Gersch all of Northrup; ten grandchildren, Shaina Radcliff & her husband, Ben of Giddings, Sarah Janda & her husband, Jacob of Hills, Alicia Moreton & her husband, Scott of Serbin, Minnie Roberts of College Station, Candace Gersch of Northrup, Alison Gersch of Northrup, Lane Hentschel of Northrup, Josh Boriack & his wife, Melanie of Lincoln, Christine Mittasch & her husband, Tim of Ledbetter and Bethany Lara & her husband, Abel of McDade; eight great grandchildren, Miranda Radcliff of Giddings, Bryn, Brayla and Brek Roberts of College Station, Caleb, Hutson & Kinley Boriack of Lincoln and Mason Lara of McDade; two sisters Mary Ann Davenport & her husband, Bill of Dallas and Carol Touchstone & her husband, Roy of Austin; brother, Bobby Zoch of La Grange; brother-in-law, Herman Gersch & his wife, Frances of Northrup; sister-in-law, Leona Sandoz & her husband, Earl of Giddings and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Josh Boriack, Jacob Janda, Ben Radcliff, Willie Wagner, Bobby Hentschel and Roland Zoch. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Moreton, Tim Mittasch, Abel Lara and Laverne's grandchildren and great grandchildren.
