A telegram was received by Herbert Cockerton yesterday morning announcing the death of Professor Lorenzo Dow Stearns, which occurred at Jones Academy near Harthorne, Indian Territory the later part of last week. Mrs. Stearns passed through the city today with the remains of her husband which will be taken to Milford, Iroquois County, Illinois, USA for burial. The Knights of Pythias will have charge of the funeral of Professor Stearns, and a committee will meet the remains at the Junction today.

Professor Stearns' death was entirely unexpected to his many friends of this city and will come as a great shock to them. He was formerly principal at the Jackson School here, and was highly respected to his profession, and his death in middle life is greatly to be regretted.
