The Lewis Griffis Cemetery consists of only 2 markers and is located on private property. The location is 6179 Freedom Road (US21), Branchville, SC. The property owner at the time was R T Rickenbaker who gave us a private tour of the graves. Their markers were broken, lay in disaray and no longer readable. He told us they were found by a Mrs Betsill and were surveyed in 1999. According to Mr Rickenbaker, his tombstone when surveyed read "Aged 51 Years, 5 Months and 24 days. A member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for nearly 30 Years" Signed by W T White. We were doing Griffith genealogy and visiting family gravesites. Hope this helps. Grave markers for Lewis Allen Griffith, Sr. and his wife, Eliza Glen Syphrett Griffith could NOT be found in Griffith Family Cemetery - Branchville, SC, although several members of the family thought they were buried there. All of the other graves in the Griffith Family cemetery have markers, so it seemed doubtful that Lewis and Eliza were buried there.. The last physical search for their stones in this cemetery was in January 2015, but no stones could be found. According to family records, Lewis and Eliza were buried in Griffith Family cemetery, but without finding grave markers for them, their burial there is truly questionable. On September 22, 2022, I received a message from Katherine M Rogers #48429118, indicating that Lewis and Eliza were buried in Sardis Cemetery ... located outside of Branchville. I am changing the burial location to Sardis Cemetery, and hopefully someone will find markers for them there. (UPDATE ... they could not be found at Sardis Cemetery ... but were found at THE LEWIS GRIFFIS CEMETERY ... just a small two plot place on private property in Branchville. Please read at the top ... for who to contact for visitation)
