"SCOTT JACK, 78, RETIRED FARMER KNOWN FOR FRIENDLINESS, JOKES, STORY TELLING
"Scott Jack, 78, a retired farmer, pilot and Boone County personality, died at 12:06 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital West.

"Mr. Jack of Richwood, was a former employee of Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home in Walton. He owned a small Piper Cub plane and enjoyed flying, farming and hunting. He was a member of Beaverlick Baptist Church and was well-known in Boone County for his tall tales and jokes. Jack's wife of 53 years, Elsie Garrison Jack, said her husband enjoyed helping people.

"'He had a lot of friends. He never saw a stranger, as far as that goes,' Mrs. Jack said.

"Jack, a native of Boone County, worked for the Chambers and Grubbs funeral home in Walton for 14 years. He also raised tobacco and corn before retiring.

"Mrs. Jack said her husband learned how to fly by piloting the plane around their farm.

"'He would fly around and look at other people's farms. It was just kind of a hobby. He never traveled far,' Mrs. Jack said. "He liked to help out. He just liked people."

"Other survivors include a daughter, Sally Jo Barrier of Richwood; sisters, Martha Jane Carpenter of Walton and Shirley Burtram of Winchester, Ind.; and a granddaughter.

"Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton. Visitation will be there from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Richwood Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Boone County."
