James was an Armor Officer Candidate School (OCS) classmate of mine at Fort Knox Kentucky in 1967. In the short six months of training, James and I became very good friends.
We were commissioned 2nd Lieutenants in September 1967 and James opted for flight school like so many did at the time even though it was a ticket to Vietnam in a helicopter.
I went on to Korea and James went to Fort Wolter, Texas.
It was spring 1968 when I heard that James had been involved in a mid-air accident that claimed his life.
James A Wright was killed in a mid-air near Weatherford, Texas while flying a TH-55A. Also killed in the crash was the pilot of a second TH-55A 2LT Douglas H Howard.
Like so many of the fellows, James (and Douglas) died so very young.
