Good Man and Old Pioneer Passes On
"T. Y. Parham, a pioneer of this county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. G. Adkinson, in the Neal community Monday morning early, January 30. Deceased was a native of the state of Virginia, where he was born Jan. 7, 1851, being just 82 years of age. He was the son of Dr. Thomas Parham, a member of an old Virginia family. About 1875 young Parham came west and to Texas, settling on Wallace creek in San Saba county. Here he was married to Miss Mary Parker, herself a member of one of the pioneer families to settle this county in the Indian days. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Funeral Home of Bodkin & Little, undertakers, in San Saba. It was the first funeral to be held in this beautiful Home. The services were conducted by Revs. E. E. Thomson and J. W. Rowland, the former being Mr. Parham's long time pastor and the latter the present pastor of the First Methodist church in San Saba. Burial was in the Wallace cemetery beside the dear wife who had gone on several years ago. Tom Parham was a good man, citizen, husband, father, friend and neighbor. He lived a clean, open, frank and upright life before God and man. He always stood for the highest and best things in life. A member of the Methodist church he was loyal, true and faithful to the ideals of Christian living. He is survived by two children, Mmes. J. G. Adkinson of this county and Bertie Schultz of Big Springs, also 9 grandchildren. Four of the latter were with him in the last sickness and death, Jack and Don Linn, Mrs. W.S. Warren of Alpine, and Mrs. Lila Robinson of San Antonio. Pall bearers were Frank Maas, Ernest Conner, Osborne Mullins, Clyde Hayes, W. E. Martin and John McKown."
