Richard Lowery, a pioneer farmer of Garfield County, who came to Spokane in the spring of 1889 with his brothers, Charles E. and F. E. Lowery, owners of the Empire Hotel, died yesterday of kidney and heart trouble at the Sacred Heart hospital.
Since retiring from his large farm in Garfield County two years ago, Mr. Lowery made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Maud Young at Chattaroy. He was born in England 65 years ago, came to America with his parents as a child and located in Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence County, N.Y. He came direct to Spokane from New York and later settled on a farm in Garfield County, on which he lived nearly 30 years.
He is survived by two sons, Alfred C. Lowery of Clarkson and R. M. Lowery in the United States navy; two daughters, Minnie Lowery of Spokane, and Mrs. Maud Young of Chattaroy; four brothers Charles C. and F. E. Lowery of Spokane, James H. Lowery of Brier Hill, N.Y., and E. O. Lowery of Morristown, N.Y., and a sister, Mrs. John Lavine, Morristown, N.Y.
The body is at Smith & Company's pending word from his son, who is a sailor on the battleship Mississippi.
Mr. Lowery visited his brother and sisters at Brier Hill and Morristown last fall, and renewed old acquaintances for a few weeks. He was well and favorably known in this section. In politics, Mr. Lowery was a lifelong Republican, and was deeply interested and and ardent worker on behalf of the Dairymen's League.
