Army Spc. Raymond L. White, 22, of Elwood, Ind.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment (Armor), 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; killed Nov. 12 when his patrol encountered enemy forces using small-arms fire in Baghdad. Raymond was born the son of Henry and Sharon White. He was a 2001 graduate of Frankton High School and then attended New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, N.M., Including his parents, he is survived by three brothers, Henry W. White and Jesse W. White, both of Elwood, and Daniel B. White of Kissimmee, Fla., grandparents, Clayton and Clara Menefee of Artesia, N.M.; grandfather, John S. Francis of Roslyn, N.M.; nephew, Lance W. White of Elwood; and an uncle, William (Judy) White of Guthrie, Ky. Raymond was escorted home from the Indianapolis International Airport with escorts from the Indiana State Police, Madison County Sheriff's Department, Elwood Police Department and a Humvee from the Elwood National Guard Post. Burial was with full Military Honors, and carried on a caisson with a riderless horse to the Cemetery. The Indianapolis Highlanders Bagpipes played at the funeral and at the gravesite.
