Margaret was born May 9, 1926 to Wenzel and Louise (Kuklish) Swonder in Stady, North Dakota. She attended grade school in Stady until the eighth grade when she and her family moved to Alexandria. Margaret graduated from Central High School and continued her education at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul to become a nurse.
Margaret married Frank Zavadil November 19, 1945 at First Congregational Church in Alexandria. To this union four children were born. Before raising her family Margaret worked for Munsingwear in Minneapolis. She was very active in the church mission and was an experienced seamstress, making coats, blankets and clothes for her family and children in her church mission. She loved to read and tend to her garden. She liked to be outside taking care of animals and refinish furniture. She was an excellent cook, always having food for family and friends when they would visit.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Zavadil of Alexandria; son, Peter (Kathleen) Zavadil of Perham; daughters, Mary Claire "Mimi" (Erik) Larum of Alexandria, Susan (Norman) Tvrdik of Alexandria, Barbara Vavra of Rochester; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, seven sisters, and a grandson, Jory Zavadil.
A Funeral Mass was held January 5 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Reno Township with the Rev. Roger Thoennes officiating. Interment was at Bohemian Independent Cemetery in Lake Mary Township. Casket bearers were Cody Zavadil, Eric Vavra, Derek Riepe, Noel Schonberg, Dean Radil and Dick Carter. Arrangements were by Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
