He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and lived in Stuart for 23 years, coming from Dalton, Mass.
He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a member of Marine Bombing Squadron 613 Association.
He received his bachelor's degree from Cornell University.
He was a retired executive vice president and had worked for Berkshire Life Insurance Co. for over 30 years. He served on the board of directors and was past president of The Boys and Girls Club of Pittsfield, Mass., served as president of Coolidge Hill Foundation for 30 years, was past president and a long standing member of The Country Club of Pittsfield and a member of the Stuart Yacht and Country Club for 23 years.
Survivors include his children, Lisa Amber of Dedham, Mass., Deborah Heffernan of Arlington, Mass., John Amber of Delray Beach, Gilbert Amber of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine; and brother, John "Jack" Amber. Memorial contributions may be made to The Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin County, P.O. Box 910, 11500 S.E. Lares Ave., Hobe Sound, FL 33475. Services:
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. with the funeral at 2 p.m. Nov. 4 at Stuart Congregational Church. Military honors will be provided by the Marine Corps following the church service.
