Donald J. "Peck" Dewing, 86, of Kentland, passed away unexpectedly at 5:35 pm, Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Covenant Medical Center of Urbana, IL.

He was born October 16, 1928 in Kentland to Thomas W. Dewing and Ethel (Miljour) Dewing and was a 1947 graduate of A.J. Kent High School.

His marriage of 62 years was to Verna M. Ewen on January 26, 1952 in Sheldon, IL. She survives.

He was a Kentland resident all his life and a member of the Kentland Knights of Pythias, a past Deacon of Covenant Federated Church, and was a member of the 1949 Cassidy Softball Team. He had worked for the Walter Small Oil Company for several years and farmed for many years. Peck enjoyed the fellowship with friends at the local coffee shop.

Surviving with his wife are his children; Mary Burris (husband: Charlie) of Roanoke, IN, Bob Dewing (wife: Sharon) of Kentland, and Jim Dewing (wife: Deb) of Earl Park; and a sister, Esther Voglund of Kentland. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren; Jill, Jon, Erin, and Sara; and 1 great-grandson, Quinn.

Preceding him in death with his parents are 2 brothers, Walter and Ralph Dewing, and a sister, Julia Turnpaugh.

Friends may call from 4-8 pm (CST) Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Covenant Federated Church (612 N. 6th St., Kentland, IN 47951). Funeral Service there at 11 am (CST), Monday, November 24, 2014 with interment to follow in Fairlawn Cemetery.
