Anna Belle Thomason Goin was the third child of Dennis Thomason and his second wife, Nancy Hobbs Thomason. Her mother died of childbirth complications when Anna was 8, and she was raised by a series of stepmothers, but mostly by her eldest sister Bessie. She married Orville Goin and they had two sons.

I did not meet her to remember until late in her life, when she used to visit my grandmother next door (her youngest sister, whose birth had killed their mother.) Aunt Anna had beautiful white hair, and a wicked sense of humor. She was a very tough woman, as were all of Dennis Thomason's kids.

One thing about Aunt Anna which greatly impressed me was told me by my grandmother, who had had her own issues with a wife-beating husband. Uncle Orville, a few times in their married life, thought that he would beat her into submission to his wishes. Every single time, Aunt Anna whipped the pants off of him. I admire that. -- Sue Ann Harfst
