Following is a short biography of Frances' grandfather, Etienne Lacassagne, and her dad, Paul Peter, from page 171 of Patorni, François-Marie, The French in New Mexico: Four Centuries of Exploration, Adventure, and Influence, 2020 French in America Press. Kindle Edition, p. 171:
- Another prominent builder brought from France by Bishop Lamy was Etienne Lacassagne. He worked on the construction of the Saint Francis Cathedral, the Loretto Chapel, the St. Michael's and Loretto school buildings, and other properties. In 1877, the New Mexico Territory commissioned him to install a brick cornice and a brick chimney "with neat molded tops" on the east end of the Palace of the Governors. His brick company, Etienne Lacassagne & Co., supplied machine-made bricks to the Industrial School, and in 1894 he completed the south tower of the cathedral. After his work on the diocesan buildings, Lacassagne remained in Santa Fe, married, and worked as a sculptor and artist. The couple had one son, Paul. He followed his father's dedication to the visual arts, opened an advertising company in Santa Fe, and participated in numerous projects around town. Paul and his wife, Melinda, had three sons and eight daughters. All eight daughters attended the Loretto Academy. The Lacassagne family is a New Mexico dynasty with about a hundred descendants. About 40 members of the family attended the St. Michael's and Loretto schools. Etienne's granddaughter, Frances Lacassagne, was the longest-living Loretto graduate when she passed away in February 2015 at age 103.
