Gary L. Brandt, 73, of Urbandale died Friday, February 20, 2015, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
Gary was born on June 25, 1941 in Gibbon, NE to the late Merrill Dean and Harriett (Landis) Brandt. He grew up in Gibbon where he graduated from high school before attending art school in Omaha. He became a commercial artist, which eventually took him to Des Moines where he held various positions including Art Director for WHO TV and National Pork Producers.

Gary had been a soccer coach for Soccer West. He was very proud of his German heritage and had founded the German American Club of Des Moines. He crafted music boxes and cuckoo clocks.
He will be remembered as a role model for his family and for the example he set with his faith.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Urbandale; three children, Jeff (Gina) of Branson, MO, Greg (Heather) of Spokane, WA and Eric (Dawn) of Winterset; four grandchildren, Alex and Zach (Amber) Brandt of Spokane and Michael (Breanna) and Kaethe Brandt of Branson; two great grandchildren, Lemar Chapman and Lincoln Brandt; sister, Lynne Brandt of Kearny, NE; sister-in-law, Lois Brandt of Gibbon; and brother-in law, Johnny Pedersen of Glidden, IA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Jean (Faga) Brandt; brother, Jimmy Brandt .
