Harry was born in Helena, Lewis and Clark County, Montana in August 11, 1918. He caught spinal meningitis as an infant and became deaf. He attended Great Falls Deaf and Blind School in the early 1920's. He moved to Portland, Oregon with his family. Harry has great love for flowers and plants, has such tremendous experience of growing them. He married and divorced Elma Banks twice (1948 and 1953). They have four children. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church since in his 20's even tho his upbringing was Catholic. He loves being with people, in spite of his deafness, he never let it stop him from communicating with hearing people. You will always find him with paper and pencil ready to communicate.
