John Oscipok, 96 years of age, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who was a Fullerton resident for over 60 years, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon January 13, 2013 in his home. Born in Northampton to the late Joseph and Mildred (Kunsman) Oscipok, he was the husband of Ann J. (Mankos) Oscipok for 61 years at the time of her passing on December 8, 2003.
John attended Northampton High School and was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII as a paratrooper with the 17th Airborne Division, and was a member of the first group to jump into Germany during battle. He was honored with the Purple Heart and two Bronze stars for his bravery. He returned home and worked for Bethlehem Steel for over 42 years as a Turn Foreman in air, water and steam until retiring. He was a life member of VFW Post 4714 Northampton, and was an avid golfer with the Bethlehem Steel League.
Survivors: Daughter, Sandra L. Decker and husband Ronald of Palmerton; grandchildren, Susan Decker-Guzman and husband Brian, Jonathan E. Decker and fiancee Katie Hamill; most loving great-grandson Charlie, all living in Manhattan. He was predeceased by his sister, Mrs. Mary Lucky of Northampton.
Services: His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Edward J. Essig at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 21, 2013 in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, 618 Fullerton Ave., Whitehall, located one block south of the Fullerton Ave., exit of Route 22. His viewing will begin at 10 a.m. in the Church foyer. Entombment with VFW honors will following in Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown. The Gilbert Funeral Home of Whitehall is honored to handle his arrangements.
