Alan Ray Woodward, age 52 of 1445 New Hope Church Road, Laurel Springs, N.C. passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was born June 9, 1963 in Charlottesville, Virginia to Charles William and Sandra Carol Dye Woodward.

In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bud Floyd Woodward and Ethel Breeden Woodward; maternal grandparents, Wallace and Charlotte Ford; maternal great-grandmother, Lily Keen, one sister, Jacqueline Lerch.

Alan spent most of his life in the Laurel Springs area working as a tree farmer. He loved giving a helping hand to those in need. When anyone needed help with anything, Alan was always there. He was a Volunteer Firefighter for 24 years.

He loved to hunt and provide for his family. Alan enjoyed spending every spare moment with his grandson. Alan was a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Muriel Lynne Woodward of the home; one son, Jared Woodward of Laurel Springs; one daughter, Kimberly Woodward and fiancé Jack Edwards of Sparta; one grandson, Jace Woodward of Laurel Springs which was his pride and joy; his mother, Sandra Carol Dye Woodward; one brother, William Woodward and wife Sophia of San Antonio, TX; two sisters, Patricia Randolph and husband Thomas of Boomer; Sherri Walsh of Hickory; 16 nieces and nephews; seven great-nieces and nephews; several aunts and uncles; special brothers, Mark Woodward, Neal Dyer, David Sides, Dwayne Bright, John Davis and Johnny Davis; a host of close family and friends also survive.

The family requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Woodward at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2015 in the chapel of Grandview Memorial Funeral Home with Brother Ed Hall, Reverend Graylen Blevins and Reverend Steve Leashomb officiating. Interment will follow at Laurel Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
