Eliza H. Bishop was born in Stamford 16 June 1800 to Hezekiah and Polly Coggeshall Bishop. She was baptized in the First Congregational Church in Stamford, along with her brothers and sister. The church records did not list the children's first names, but only said ""The children of Hezekiah Bishop & Polly Coggeshall were baptized in 1804. The date of the baptism and their first names do not show, but they were Hezekiah S. Bishop, Jr., Erastus C. Bishop, Elizabeth H. Bishop and Polly Ann Bishop"
On some records, she is listed as Eliza and others Elizabeth. Her tombstone has her name as Eliza H."
