Ellen Baker, dau of Lawrence and Maria [Proseus] Baker; md 5 Jan 1860 Newark, NY, Marshall Bannister Spier (son of Samuel and Anna [Garnsey] Spier) Ellen had 2 ch: Anna Garnsey Spier and George Lawrence Spier. After the Civil War, Ellen and Marshall went west to NE where Marshall "picked up a pre-emption" as a vet. He had inherited a large sum from his father, but managed to "blow it all on penny stocks," acc his grch. They lived in semi-poverty until Ellen's death (from consumption.) Her family had her remains sent back to Rochester for burial, the first, in the Baker family plot. Marshall went on to live w/his dau Annie for some years.
