Gordon E. Townsend, 90 died Thursday (Oct. 22, 2015) at the Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown, following a long illness.

He was born April 12, 1925, in the town of Barre, a son of the late Bert and Clara (Youngs) Townsend and had lived in this area all of his life.

Gordon was a life member of the Albion Fire Department. He was a member of the Albion Dye Hose, Albion Emergency Squad, the Eagle Harbor United Methodist Church, Renovation Lodge 97 of Albion and Medina Lodge 336 of the F&AM. Gordon was a very hard worker. He had worked for Dobbins Farms for over 12 years and after went to work at the Albion Correctional Facility as a maintenance worker, he owned and operated Townsend Grocery and Hardware Store in Kuckville and drove school bus in Lyndonville and also in Seabring, Fla.

He served as a town councilman on the Yates Town Board and then served as the Town of Yates highway superintendent.

He was predeceased by his wife, Doris in 2000; his siblings, Raynold, Harold, Dorothy, Lealand “Jim,” Joyce; grandson, Brett Bowers. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra (Bruce) Bowers of Ft. Plain; his son, Richard (Pat) Townsend of Albion; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Burial will be in Mt. Albion Cemetery.
