Mary was the daughter of John and Susanne Donnelly Manthe of Germany and Ireland and had sisters: Martha and Anna. She married Peter Joseph Ronau on 26 January 1882 in Maumee, Ohio, and they had 5 children: Amelia Rosanna (1882), John Joseph (1888-1978), Martin Mathias (1891-1979), Viola Anna (1892), and Thomas Edwin (1899-1977). Mary died from a cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 73 years 9 months and 8 days.
