Murray Edward Yeakley, 87, passed into Heaven and the arms of Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 3, 2013 in The Woodlands, Texas. Murray was born June 10, 1926 in Oklahoma City and spent most of his young life in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Mr. Yeakley served proudly in the United States Navy, graduated from the University of Oklahoma, and married the love of his life, Betty Lee Woodruff in December of 1948. He began working for Conoco shortly afterward and continued his work with them until his early retirement in 1987. He and Betty made their home in Ardmore, Oklahoma, Houston, Hobbs, New Mexico, Corpus Christi, and The Woodlands over their more than 64 years together. Murray played golf, flew airplanes, vacationed in Europe and Hawaii with Betty, worked to help others through The Lion's Club, coached Little League baseball teams through The Oaks Dads Club in Houston, worshipped Christ in the Baptist church, loved gardening and working in the yard, enjoyed wood-working and building things, and was a true Republican to the end. He and Betty raised two children, Carol Yeakley Dahl and Mark Randall Yeakley.

Murray is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Laura Yeakley, his sister Edna Mae Yeakley, two brothers Charles Yeakley, Jr. and Dr. Robert Yeakley, and two granddaughters, Jennifer Yeakley and Nikki Canady. He is survived by his wife, Betty, his daughter Carol Dahl and husband David of The Woodlands, his son Mark Yeakley and wife Judy of Bedford, Texas, and four grandchildren: Steven White and wife Kelli of Spring, Texas, Suzy White of Conroe, Texas, Bridgette Yeakley of Irving, Texas, and Kyle Sheehan and wife Jeanine of The Woodlands. He is also survived by three beautiful great-grandchildren Mary Elizabeth White (11), Braden Matthew White (4), and Hudson Murray White (3), two sisters-in-law Margaret Ann Yeakley Buck of San Antonio and Bonita Woodruff of Garland, as well as eight wonderful nephews and their families. His family would like to thank the loving care given to Mr. Yeakley by Park Manor of The Woodlands over the past two years. He and his wife shared a room there and were treated with love and respect by their kind staff.

A graveside service was held for Murray on Monday, August 5, at 10:00 A.M. Pastor John Hereford from First Baptist Church of The Woodlands conducted the ceremony for the family and friends of Mr. Yeakley. His life was celebrated as he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. He served God, his country, and his family with love, and he is missed by many who are thankful for the promise we'll someday be together again.

In memory of Murray and in lieu of flowers, the family encourages family and friends to make a donation to a favorite charity or church.
