Carl was born in Gorham on October 19, 1926 the son of George A. and Grace M. (Randall) Cressey and following graduation from high school, Carl became a proud member of the Merchant Marines. He possessed an entrepreneurial spirit and owned a successful commercial electrical business. Though he was busy growing his business, he found time to participate in town politics.
He enjoyed fishing and bowling with his family and friends in his spare time. He and his fiancée Jayne embarked on many cruises to the Caribbean and beyond. Upon retirement, Carl worked as a community integrator accompanying disabled persons of day trips to various recreational activities. Most recently, Mr. Cressey lived at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough where he enjoyed watching his vast collection of old movies.
He is survived by two sons, Carl R Cressey, Jr. and Craig G. Cressey; one brother, Ernest Cressey; four grandchildren; two nephews and one nice; and his fiancée, Jayne Smith.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak St. in Alfred, Maine. You are invited to visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. until the service. Committal prayers and burial with Military Honors will be later in the spring.
