Funeral services for Mrs. Peggy Smith, 86, will be held at 1 P.M. on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from the chapel of Capps Funeral Home. The Reverend Scott Johnson will officiate. Mrs. Smith, a resident of Slidell, Louisiana, died at Ocshner’s North Shore Medical Center in Slidell on Tuesday, March 8, 2016.

She was born July 29, 1929 in Hammond, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Fredrick and Lula May Lang Daniels. She was a housewife and a member of Ridge Memorial Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith loved reading paperback books, drawing, painting, writing poetry, genealogy, and playing Scrabble or any word games. She had also served as secretary of the Honey Island CB Club in the 1970’s. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Albert Allen Smith; Three half-sisters: Pearl (Web) Simmons; Edith (Cliff) Moore; and Clara (Phillip) Scafidel. Three half-brothers: Thad (Emma) Hughes; J.C. (Edna) Hughes; and Ernest (Margie) Hughes.

Mrs. Smith is survived by three sons: Clark (Mona) Smith; Merrill (Laurie) Smith; and Robert (Karen) Smith. One daughter, Barbara Wehrstedt. Five grandchildren: Teresa Weaver; Merrill Smith, Jr.; Justin Smith; Rachel Donnelly; and Kelsey Smith. Seven Great-grandchildren; and one Great-great grandchild. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be: Allen Smith; Justin Smith; C.J. Landry; Mike Taylor; Eric Sallinger; and Cameron Weaver.

Burial will be in the Rushing Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from 10 A.M. till service time at 1 P.M. at the funeral home.
