Dr. DeForest E. Hale, 83, of Syracuse died Thursday. Born in Manlius, he graduated from Syracuse University in 1942 and its College of Medicine in 1945. He retired in 1988 from private practice as a radiologist after 39 years. He was a member of Bellevue Country Club, Bellevue United Methodist Church and Radiological Society of North America. He was certified by the American Board of Radiology. A son, Frank, died in 1992.

Survivors: His wife of 56 years, the former Alice Barker; five daughters, Janet Davis of Hewitt, N.J., Patricia Wilson of Liverpool, Marilyn McDermott of Onondaga Hill, Madelyn Hornstein of Syracuse and Melanie Flaherty of Chesapeake, Va.; two sons, Alan B. of Bethlehem, Pa., and DeForest of Syracuse; 21 grandchildren. Services: 1 p.m. Sunday in Bellevue United Methodist Church, Geddes Street, Syracuse. Burial, Manlius Village Cemetery. No calling hours. Burns-Garfield Funeral Home, Syracuse, has arrangements.
